NAGAON, Feb 6: The district-level games of Khel Maharan 2.0, organised by the Sports and Youth Welfare Department of the Assam government in collaboration with the Nagaon district administration, commenced on Thursday at the Nurul Amin Stadium in Nagaon here.
The inaugural ceremony began with the state anthem, followed by an address by Tapan Kumar Das, secretary of the Nagaon Sports Association. Narendra Kr Shah, District Commissioner of Nagaon, extended his best wishes to the athletes participating in the district-level competition and urged them to bring glory to the district at the state level.
Rupak Sarma, MLA of Nagaon – Batadraba assembly constituency, emphasized that Khel Maharan 2.0 aims to provide a suitable platform for rural athletes in Assam. He encouraged the younger generation to focus on both education and sports. Sarma also highlighted that talented athletes can secure jobs in various government departments and public sector undertakings.
The event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sudip Nath, Assistant Commissioners Anuranan Medhi and Nava Kanta Pegu, Joint Director of Health Dr Kabita Baruah, District Information and Public Relations Officer Mandira Chaayengia, and District Sports Officer Prateem Baruah, among others. The ceremony also featured cultural events and the lighting of the Olympic torch, an official press note added here.
