RYSC Wins Greater Diphu Sports Association Football League

DIPHU, Oct 9: Greater Diphu Sports Association (GDSA) Football League, 2023 in memory of Nirola Tissopi concluded here at Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) stadium on Monday.

(RYSC) lifted the champion’s trophy, while Jirpo United FC bagged the runners up trophy. The donor of the tournament was the late Gautam Terang’s family. Late Terang was the president of GDSA.

Manager of RYSC, Aboron Teron, expressing his happiness on the winning of the B-division league said it was after 10 years of continuous participation and hard work that had bore fruit. There will be celebration. His team including the runners up and two other semi finalists Young Guns FA and Kangtang FC has been promoted to A-division. While Vaithai FC has been relegated to B – division from A – division.

The mistakes committed on two occasions by Jirpo United boys in the dying moments of the second half had given RYSC boys the lead, otherwise the score would have been equal. It was a winning match for Jirpo United, but missed the chance to win. The final match was played between RYSC and Jirpo United at KASA stadium.

Though Jirpo United took the lead first in the 7th minute through a score by Archo Ronghang, it did not take much time for RYSC to find the equalizer in the 13th minute through Jyoti Bordoloi. The second goal came for RYSC in the 23rd minute through Philipson Bey. It made good attacks against the opponent team and in the 27th minute the RYSC got their third goal through William Kathar. The Jirpo United also tried hard by taking good chances and in the 33rd minute got their second goal through Mindar Terang.

The score at the end of first half was RYSC leading by 4- 2. The second half witnessed a more entertaining football as both sides made strong attacks and counter attacks. Jirpo United boys made all attempts to equalise the score. But the RSYC boys took another chance and in the 53rd minute scored the fifth goal through Phukan Bey.

Jirpo United also made a good comeback and Archo Ronghang scored the third and fourth goals in the 58th minute and 76th minute for his team. At the 10th minute of the dying moments of the match Jirpo United got free chances inside the goal line, but their scorers created a miss. Had they scored the goals the score line would have been equalised or the Jirpo United would have taken the lead. It was sheer luck for them.

Finally the match was won by RYSC by 5-4.

The winning team carried away a trophy and cheque of Rs 20,000 handed over by former principal secretary, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and wife of late Gautam Terang, Jayshree Daulaguphu, while the runners up team also received a trophy and cheque of Rs 10, 000.

The best player of the day was awarded to Archo Ronghang of Jirpo United FC, while the best goalkeeper was awarded to Sermon Engti of RYSC, best discipline team was awarded to Thongnokbe FC, best player of the tournament to David Engti of RYSC and highest scorer was awarded to Anambi of Kangtang FC.

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by family members of the donor, KASA general secretary, Pankaj Teron; District Sports Officer, Rilip Ronghang and KASA football secretary, Horen Engti Kathar.
