District Level Summer School Football Tournament concludes in Diphu

DIPHU, July 20: The District Level Summer School Football Tournament concluded here at Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) stadium on Saturday. The tournament is organised by the District Sports Office. There were six teams in both Under -15 and Under – 17 categories participating in the tournament from various schools in the Karbi Anglong.

In the final match for Under -15 category Sonapur BM High School, Langhin defeated New Hope school to lift the champion’s trophy. Bekrai Basumatary opened the scoring in the first half, while Umesh Basumatary scored the winning goal in the second half. While in the Under – 17 final match Langhin Pamgaon HS school defeated Rajapathar HS school by a solitary goal to lift the champion’s trophy. Prakash Basumatary’s late goal in the second half helped Pamgaon HS School to win the match.

Prize distribution ceremony was organised to give away the trophies to the runners up and winning teams. Executive Member (EM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) incharge Education, Richard Tokbi said after winning here will participate in inter district at state level and after winning in the state level can play in the Subrota Cup at the national level. The final match is very much entertaining and I wish all the very best for the two winning teams Under-15 and Under -17 to represent Karbi Anglong.

The EM also said, “We need to appreciate the initiative taken up by Chief Executive Member (CEM), KAAC and president, KASA, Tuliram Ronghang for promoting sports culture in the district. Here in KASA stadium itself also is seen with state of the art football stadium, Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) Multi Purpose Sports Complex and swimming pool have come up.”  The EM also informed that the Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) Cup will be conducted in the coming winter season and the CEM Gold Cup to be hosted next December, 2024.

The EM also gave away the champion’s trophy for Under 15 champion’s team Langhin Pamgaon HS School. The runners-up trophy was given to the runners-up team by Melina Terang and KASA swimming secretary, Eva Singpho.

Anand Terang of New Hope High School collected the best player of the tournament in Under -15 category, while Prakash Basumatary also collected the best player of the tournament in Under 17 category.

The champion’s trophy for the winning team for Under 15 was given away by KASA general secretary, Dr. Pankaj Teron and the runners-up trophy was given away jointly by Khorsing Terang, Everester and assistant general secretary, KASA, Prodip Ronghang. The prize distribution ceremony was attended by District Sports Officer, Rilip Ronghang and other officials of KASA.
