IMPHAL, July 26 (NNN): Suspected militants threatened a gram panchayat pradhan in Manipur’s Imphal East district by planting an IED in his house on Sunday night.
Police said that the suspected militants planted the IED at the house of Kangabam Chorajit Singh at Langdum village under Irilbung police station of Imphal East district.
Chorajit is the pradhan of the Keirao Gram Panchayat.
The IED was found planted at the gate of his house. Family members discovered the same last night, around 8.30 pm, police further said.
On being informed, a team of Irilbung police station immediately rushed to the house. A team of bomb experts later defused the explosive.
The police are yet to ascertain the motive behind planting the IED even though they suspect monetary demand from the pradhan behind it. They registered a case to investigate the matter.
Family members, however, said that they had received no monetary demand and threat from any of the underground groups in recent times.
