Morigaon, July 5: The Prime Minister’s National Dialysis Unit in Jagiroad, Morigaon district, has been facing a severe crisis as it has been running without power supply for the past five days. This situation has caused immense distress among the patients and attendees at the dialysis center, especially considering the state government’s claims of ensuring regular power supply in the state.

It is alleged that the Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) abruptly cut off the power supply through the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) without providing any prior notice to the authority of the Dialysis Unit. This sudden power outage has created a panic among the patients and attendees who depend on the dialysis services provided by the center.
The Prime Minister’s National Dialysis Unit, which operates as a free dialysis center, was established in September 2021 under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Health Mission Assam and Apollo at the Nagaon Paper Mill Hospital in Jagiroad. However, after the paper mill was acquired by the Assam Industrial Development Corporation, the condition of the dialysis center has deteriorated significantly.
On June 29, the Assam Industrial Development Corporation disconnected the electricity supply to the dialysis center without issuing any prior notice to the Apollo authority. As a result, the center has been relying on generators for the past two days to continue providing dialysis services. However, the failure of two generators has added to the already dire situation. Currently, there are 30 patients undergoing treatment at the Prime Minister’s National Dialysis Unit, and they, along with their attendees, have expressed their dissatisfaction with the sudden power supply cut-off.
The patients and attendees are urging the authorities to restore the power supply immediately to ensure uninterrupted dialysis services and alleviate the suffering of those in need.
