NAGAON, July 26: A major raid conducted by the special operation team of Nagaon police, led by additional superintendent of police (HQ) Supratibhlal Boruah, resulted in the seizure of a significant cache of codeine-based syrup bottles and nitrozapam tablets. Acting on a secret tip-off, the police carried out the raid at the residence of one Amir Hussain in Nabin Nagar near Dhing Gate in the town late on Tuesday evening.
During the operation, the police seized a total of 1,531 bottles of codeine-based syrup (100ml each) and 39,252 nitrozapam tablets from the house. The estimated worth of the seized syrup and tablets is believed to be over Rs 2.5 crore in the market. Three individuals, including a woman, were arrested in connection with the case. The arrested persons have been identified as Amir Hussain, Afraz Hussain, and Anowara Begum. Amir Hussain, one of the arrested individuals, is reported to be a medical representative working for a multinational company in the area.
Further investigations are underway to ascertain the source and intended use of the seized substances.
