GUWAHATI, May 22: India’s first ever National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) for Sports will be set up in North Bengal’s historic town of Coochbehar.
Ministry of Railways, in collaboration with Sports Authority of India (SAI) will helm the construction of the same. The foundation stone of the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) for Sports was laid in the presence of Union Minister State of Railways & Textiles Darshana Jardosh, MOS for Youth Affairs & Sports and Home Affairs Nisith Pramanik and MOS for Minority Affairs John Barla at New Coochbehar on Saturday.
With the setting up of this SAI NCOE, Coochbehar will become the national hub for sports. This new centre will provide world class sporting and coaching facilities to aspiring athletes of not only of Coochbehar but also of the Northeast region. National and International events can also be organized in Coochbehar.
While many sports persons working in N. F. Railway have brought laurels for the country in International level sports including the Olympic, the setting up of this centre will further promote the sporting activities by many folds.
