Guwahati, Jan 2: Nanda Babu Singh, the former principal controller of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) examinations, who was accused in a recruitment scam, was granted bail on Tuesday.
Singh, considered a close associate of ex-APSC chairman Rakesh Paul, was accused of destroying around 45,000 answer sheets of APSC exams under Paul’s instructions. It was previously alleged that Singh unethically appointed his daughter, Minerva Devi Arambam, to an ACS position.
Currently, Arambam serves as the Additional District Commissioner in Karimganj district and was summoned by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in December. Singh was arrested from his Silchar residence on December 11 in connection with the APSC cash-for-job scam after two days of interrogation by the Assam Police’s SIT.
Following his three-day police custody starting December 13, he was placed under judicial custody on December 15 after his police custody ended and the SIT did not request his further detention.
