1 killed in accident in Rangapara

TEZPUR, March 4: On person has been killed in a road accident that took place on the Rangapara- Bindukuri -Tezpur road in Tezpur.

According to sources, the victim, Azad Manki  Munda, a worker of a local tea garden in the Nagapathar area was hit by a bus bearing the registration number ‘AS 12E 4600’ on Sunday night. He was hit while he had been returning home on his bicycle from the market. He died on the spot.

Local residents became agitated and blocked the Rangapara-Bindukuri-Tezpur road for some time while protesting against the incident. The protesters came to the highway with sticks and set fire to block the road resulting in heavy traffic jams . They also damaged another bus bearing the registration number ‘AS 10-6976’. Later, senior police officials arrived at the scene and controlled the situation. The vehicle that caused the accident was seized and taken to the Rangapara Police Station.

Meanwhile on the same day another accident also occurred at Chokighat in Jamugurihat . A Tata Nexon bearing the registration number ‘AS-01-N-5515’ collided head on with an E-Rikcshaw, injuring nine passengers, including three children. Among the injured, seven passengers were on board the E-Rickshaw and two passengers were travelling the Tata Nexon. The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
