DIMAPUR, May 29: A seven-year-old boy has drowned in Laruri village under Meluri sub-division in Phek district in Nagaland, while a 73-year-old has been crushed to death by a falling wall at Rekizu ward under Pfutsero sub-division in the district following incessant rains and stormy winds in the state since May 27.
The unfortunate incidents took place on Tuesday.
Updating on the reports of damages across the state, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) said nine households at Chuchuyimlang village under Mokokchung district were severely affected by heavy storms. In Noksen subdivision under Tuensang district, 36 households were severely damaged by windstorms.
A delayed report received here said a house was completely damaged at Awotsakili village under Zunheboto district.
A mudslide caused by incessant rains was reported from Kikruma village under Phek district. In Kiphire district, damages to public infrastructure and households by incessant rains were reported on Tuesday.
The NSDMA asked the district disaster management authorities and the line departments to be alert and vigilant as the monsoon season approaches the state. Further, it urged the public to refrain from fishing, picnicking, etc. during the monsoon.
Executive engineer of the electrical division, Kohima, Shiludi Longkumer informed that a heavy storm accompanied by rainfall on Wednesday caused massive damage to high tension (HT) and low tension (LT) power lines at Tseminyu and Ghathashi under Zunheboto district affecting the feeders of 33Kv ITI, 33Kv Ringmain-2, 33Kv Chakhabama, 33Kv Lalmati, 11Kv Ministers’ Hill, 11Kv Paramedical, 11Kv Jakhama Civil, 11Kv Jakhama Army, 11Kv Science College Jotsoma, 11Kv Zubza, 11Kv TV Centre Jotsoma, 11Kv Khuzama, 11Kv Kigwema, 11 Kv Sendenyu, 11 Kv Thizama and other numerous LT feeders.
He said while a few HT and LT lines had been restored, the power department was still carrying out restoration work round the clock on a war footing with limited manpower to restore other lines for smooth flow of power supply in the affected areas.
