Guwahati, May 31: In a significant breakthrough, a joint team from Gorchuk and Hatigaon Police Stations dismantled a bike lifting ring following the arrest of Jibon Bordoli alias Jibon Das, 33, from Lanka. Das was apprehended in Saukuchi in connection with a bike theft case.
Further investigation revealed Bhola Dey from Byrnihat as a middleman who facilitated transactions with Misir Ali. The police also arrested Bhinaram Basumatary from Ahomgaon for providing his bike for theft and Raju Bhowmik for assisting in the bike lifting operation.
In a related development earlier this month, the East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team at Basistha Police Station successfully apprehended members of a notorious car lifting gang on May 4. The arrests included three veteran members, Sona Miya, 21, Taher Ali, 35, and Mahar Ali, 35, all from Sarthebari. This group had stolen a Bolero pickup truck (registration number AS01FC9378) from the Lalmati area on May 3. Nurul Islam, 38, from Rangia, who received the stolen vehicle, was also arrested.
These coordinated efforts by the Assam police highlight their ongoing commitment to tackling vehicle theft and dismantling criminal networks in the region.
