Padma Shri Anuradha Koirala to receive Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award

KOKRAJHAR, Dec 15: The Upendra Nath Brahma Trust (UNBT) has announced that Padma Shri Anuradha Koirala, a globally renowned social activist and founder of Maiti Nepal, has been chosen as the recipient of the 21st Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award. This prestigious accolade honours her exceptional efforts in combating human trafficking, rescuing survivors, and transforming lives through her steadfast commitment to justice and equality.

Padma Shri Koirala will be presented with the award on December 22, 2024, at 10:00 am at the Bodofa Cultural Complex in Kokrajhar.

Anuradha Koirala, also known as the ‘Mother Teresa of Nepal,’ has dedicated her life to the service of humanity, focusing particularly on combating the exploitation of women and children. Since establishing Maiti Nepal in 1993, her relentless efforts have resulted in the rescue and rehabilitation of over 50,000 survivors of sex trafficking. Through her organisation, she has provided safe havens, rehabilitation homes, and preventive programs, empowering survivors to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

Her unparalleled dedication has earned her numerous prestigious international accolades, including the CNN Hero of the Year Award (2010), the Mother Teresa Memorial International Award for Social Justice (2014), and the Padma Shri (2017) from the Government of India. Anuradha Koirala’s humanitarian efforts have solidified her reputation as a global symbol of hope and compassion.

The Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award is an annual honour presented by the Upendra Nath Brahma Trust to individuals who embody the ideals of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, a visionary Bodo leader devoted to justice, equality, and the upliftment of marginalised communities and humanity. This award aims to recognise and celebrate individuals whose actions inspire others to champion the cause of the downtrodden and uphold the principles of humanity.
