Militant arrested in Manipur

IMPHAL, Feb 3: A militant belonging to proscribed outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) was arrested in Manipur’s Imphal West district, police said on Monday.

The insurgent, identified as 29-year-old Leihaothabam Nanao Sharma, was involved in extorting government employees, shopkeepers and the common public in the Greater Imphal area, a police officer said.

He was nabbed from Lamphel supermarket on Sunday, the officer added.

Meanwhile, in another operation, security forces seized an empty INSAS rifle magazine and two cartridges from Matajang village and adjoining areas in Churachandpur district, police said. (PTI)
