Four militants arrested in Manipur

IMPHAL, March 28: Security forces have nabbed four militants belonging to different proscribed outfits from three districts of Manipur, police said in a statement on Friday.

The arrests were made in Bishnupur, Imphal East and Thoubal districts on Thursday.

A militant belonging to the Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) was nabbed from Maibam Chingmang in Bishnupur district. The insurgent, identified as Leishangthem Hiran Singh (40), was involved in extorting the common people.

A member of KCP-PSC (Politburo Standing Committee), identified as Likmabam Amujao Meitei alias Lakpa (27), was apprehended from Sawombung Pourabi area in Imphal East district, it said.

Two militants of the KCP (Taibanganba) group were nabbed from Langthabal Khunou area in Thoubal district. They were identified as Loitongbam Boyai Singh (45) and Khumanthem Dhanabir Singh alias Naobi (28).

Security forces, meanwhile, also seized 12 firearms and cartridges during search operations in Jiribam, Imphal West and Bishnupur districts on Thursday, the statement added.

Two self-loading rifles and INSAS rifles each with magazines loaded with a total of 40 cartridges, two SMG carbines without magazines, eight bulletproof plates, seven bulletproof vests, camouflage clothing and other items were seized from a vacant quarters in Langol Housing Complex in Imphal West district, it said.

Three INSAS rifles and three magazines and two SLR rifles and magazines each were seized from Chingdong Leikai in Jiribam district.

A .303 rifle with magazine and 16 cartridges, one 12-bore cartridge and other items were seized from a hill in Haotak Awang Leikai under the jurisdiction of Kumbi police station in Bishnupur district, it said.

Security forces also dismantled a bunker at Ponlen in Kangpokpi district, it added. (PTI)
