Railway Board member (O&BD) visits NF Railway

GUWAHATI, Feb 14: Hitendra Malhotra, member (operations & business development), Railway Board & ex-officio secretary to the Government of India, visited Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to assess the zone’s operational efficiency and safety preparedness.

 As part of his visit, Malhotra took part in a high-level meeting at NFR Headquarters with Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, general manager, NFR and Arun Kumar Chaudhary, general manager (Construction), NFR.

He also held a detailed review meeting with the concerned principal heads of departments (PHoDs) and other senior officials. The discussions focused on reviewing operational performance, commercial strategies and service efficiency, ensuring seamless railway operations and business growth in the zone. The deliberations also emphasised strategic planning for freight optimization, streamlining train operations, and strengthening coordination among divisions. Key performance indicators were reviewed, and innovative approaches to revenue generation and logistics management were explored. Malhotra provided valuable insights into advancing business development initiatives, enhancing freight logistics and reinforcing safety measures, reaffirming Indian Railways’ commitment to operational excellence.

During his visit, Malhotra also inspected the Central Control Room, assessing its real-time monitoring systems, emergency response mechanisms and traffic management capabilities. A detailed field inspection was also conducted at Azara Station & Goods Yard, where the Railway Board Member examined infrastructure readiness, freight handling efficiency and potential capacity expansion. The visit highlighted the importance of modernizing goods-handling processes, reducing turnaround time and boosting freight revenue, reinforcing NFR’s role in regional economic growth.
