DIMAPUR, Feb 20: Nagaland held the first meeting of the State Level Coordination Committee (SLCC) on the 8th Economic Census under the chairmanship of chief secretary J Alam at the chief secretary’s conference room in Kohima on Thursday.
The meeting was convened to identify the mechanism through which the state intends to fulfill the requirement of contractual manpower and IT personnel and identification of master trainers.
Initiating the meeting, secretary economic and statistics Akunu S Meyase said the economic census is the head count of all establishments/entrepreneurial units and workers employed within the geographical boundary of the country with particular focus on non-agricultural sector.
He said the census will be conducted in collaboration with states and UTs using advanced information communication technology platform which would facilitate geo-codes embedded data collection on mobile devices, real-time data validation and scrutiny and interactive management information system dashboards for monitoring and supervision.
The meeting also discussed the activation of district-level coordination committees in the districts and requirement of IT experts for each district to resolve IT-related issues.
It was informed that the services of government employees from various departments will be utilised in conducting the census and they will be deployed as enumerators and supervisors.
Chief secretary Alama asked the heads of departments concerned to issue instructions to the district-level officials to provide all support and necessary assistance whenever called for.
He also asked all the DCs to conduct meetings in their respective district and then start the census operations.
He also called for using social media platforms to promote awareness and sensitise the public on the economic census.
The 1st week of April is tentatively scheduled for roll out of the 8th economic census across the country.
