ITANAGAR, May 2: Union Minister for Labour & Employment, Youth Affairs & Sports, Mansukh L Mandaviya, held an important meeting with the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General KT Parnaik, at Raj Bhavan in Itanagar on May 2, 2025.
According to an official statement, the discussions during the meeting were centered around key issues of youth empowerment, the development of sports, and addressing the labour-related challenges in the state.
The Governor, in his address, spoke of the significant potential of the youth in Arunachal Pradesh and the state’s growing reputation as a rising hub for sporting excellence.
He emphasised that the youth of the region are not only full of energy but also possess immense talent and determination.
He pointed out that these qualities are particularly evident in the state’s tribal communities, where natural agility, stamina, and discipline are prominent.
The Governor noted that this talent has resulted in remarkable performances in national and international sporting events, particularly in disciplines such as boxing, martial arts (including taekwondo and wushu), and athletics.
Despite the abundance of talent, the Governor highlighted the critical need for improved sports infrastructure and facilities. He stressed that providing adequate sports infrastructure is essential to help these young athletes realize their full potential and achieve further success on the national and international stage.
Specifically, he urged the Union Minister to support the development of multi-disciplinary stadiums in towns across the state.
Additionally, he requested the creation of sports facilities like football and volleyball grounds and archery facilities in more remote villages.
According to the Governor, many of Arunachal Pradesh’s raw talents remain hidden simply due to a lack of access to such facilities, and addressing this issue would be key to unlocking the state’s true potential in the sports arena.
In addition to discussing general sports development, the Governor took the opportunity to highlight the extraordinary accomplishments of women from Arunachal Pradesh in the field of adventure sports. He proudly mentioned the achievements of five female mountaineers—Tine Mena, Anshu Jamsenpa, Muri Linngi, Tashi Yangjom, and Kabak Yano—who have all successfully conquered Mount Everest.
These women, according to the Governor, have become icons not only for the youth of Arunachal Pradesh but also for the youth of India as a whole.
He called for continued support and recognition for these remarkable women, emphasising that their accomplishments should inspire many others and encourage a new generation of young women to pursue their dreams in sports and other challenging fields.
On the subject of labour, the Governor acknowledged that Arunachal Pradesh is undergoing a significant transition in its labour ecosystem.
While traditional occupations continue to form the backbone of rural livelihoods, he noted that the state is witnessing a growing need for the formalisation of labour, as well as skill development and employment generation.
The Governor pointed out that these shifts are critical to the state’s economic and social development.
He underscored the importance of inclusive policies that not only empower the labour force but also help build a robust infrastructure to support the workforce’s evolving needs.
The Governor stressed the importance of investing in human capital, as well as creating policies that would help unlock the full potential of Arunachal Pradesh’s workforce.
He expressed hope that such initiatives would lead to sustainable growth, greater job creation, and improved livelihoods for the people of the state.
In response, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya assured the Governor of the central government’s commitment to supporting Arunachal Pradesh in its efforts to develop youth empowerment, sports, and the labour sector.
He expressed confidence that focused initiatives and investments in these areas would help improve the socio-economic landscape of the state, particularly for its youth.
Mandaviya emphasised that the development of sports infrastructure and the promotion of youth-driven initiatives would be crucial for Arunachal Pradesh to reach its full potential as a hub for both talent and sporting excellence.
He reiterated that the central government is dedicated to ensuring that the youth of Arunachal Pradesh are provided with every opportunity to excel in their chosen fields, whether in sports, academics, or other professional domains.
Also present at the meeting was Nyato Dukam, the State Minister of Labour and Employment, who joined the discussions on labour-related issues and supported the Governor’s calls for policy reforms and infrastructure development in the sector.
