Noted physician passes away

NAGAON, June 7: Renowned physician Dr Biswarup Gohain Baruah, a resident of Panigaon, Polytechnic Road, Bishnu Rabha By-lane in Nagaon town, passed away last night while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Guwahati. He was a respected figure in the medical fraternity and known for his dedication to patient care.

According to sources, Baruah suddenly fell ill on the morning of June 4 and was initially admitted to a private hospital in Nagaon. Later the same day, he was referred to a private hospital in Guwahati for advanced treatment, where he ultimately breathed his last.

At the time of his passing, Baruah was serving as the Medical Officer (School Health) under the Nagaon Sub-Divisional Health and Medical Department. A skilled gynecologist by profession, he was also deeply involved in various social and cultural activities in Nagaon, earning the love and respect of the community.

The news of his untimely demise sent shockwaves through the district. Friends, admirers, fellow doctors, and well-wishers gathered at his residence to pay their last respects. His mortal remains were later taken to the office of the Joint Director, Nagaon District Health Department, where colleagues, retired medical professionals, and health staff paid homage.

Baruah’s death has left a profound void in the medical community. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family.

Rupak Sarma, MLA of Nagaon-Batadroba, mourned the loss, describing it as an irreparable blow to the healthcare sector in Nagaon. Former Minister Girindra Kumar Baruah, former MLA Dr. Durlav Chamua, and several local organizations also extended heartfelt condolences.

Baruah is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a host of relatives and well-wishers.
