ITANAGAR, June 25: In a major boost to the education sector of Arunachal Pradesh, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) signed an agreement with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Regional Office, Guwahati, to facilitate the establishment of a CBSE Sub-Regional Office in Itanagar.
This development aims to bring CBSE services closer to schools, administrators, and students in the state, enhancing efficiency and accessibility.
According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, the temporary CBSE Sub-Regional Office will be set up within the premises of SCERT at Gohpur Tinali, Chimpu, in the state capital.
A dedicated space measuring 1,720 square feet in the old SCERT building has been allotted by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh for this purpose.
The Sub-Regional Office will begin operations from the academic session 2025–26 and will cater exclusively to all CBSE-related matters for schools within the state.
With this move, Arunachal Pradesh will no longer have to depend on CBSE’s Guwahati office for routine educational administration, exam processing, school affiliation, training programmes, and grievance redressal.
The new office will be headed by J Pankaj Bage, who has been appointed as the CBSE Sub-Regional Officer, Itanagar.
His role will include overseeing all operations related to CBSE school governance in Arunachal Pradesh and ensuring the smooth execution of board policies in the region.
Education officials said that the establishment of the Sub-Regional Office is expected to strengthen institutional coordination and improve responsiveness to the needs of CBSE-affiliated schools across the state’s remote and hilly terrain.
“The presence of this office will not only ensure faster administrative support but will also help in timely redressal of school and student issues,” the official statement said. “It is a vital step towards decentralising CBSE’s outreach and adapting to the unique challenges of the Northeast.”
Arunachal Pradesh currently has a growing number of CBSE-affiliated schools, and stakeholders have long demanded a dedicated administrative setup in the state to bridge logistical and communication gaps.
The signing of this agreement is seen as a response to these demands and a proactive move by both the state and central education authorities.
The collaboration also reflects the Government of Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to educational reforms, capacity building, and aligning with national education goals.
Officials added that further support and infrastructure may be developed around the Sub-Regional Office in the future, based on the needs and response of the schools.
The office is expected to become a hub for CBSE-related services such as affiliation processes, teacher training programmes, examination coordination, digital initiatives, and other academic and administrative functions.
The establishment of the CBSE Sub-Regional Office at Itanagar is thus poised to significantly enhance the efficiency, accessibility, and quality of educational governance in the state, providing timely assistance to thousands of students and teachers under the CBSE system.
