DHUBRI, June 26: Hundreds of students staged a silent protest in Dhubri on Thursday against the district administration’s decision to close the Kachari Ghat road, a key access route used by students commuting from the Char areas to schools and colleges in the town.
According to the protesting students, the administration has erected bamboo barricades at the Kachari Ghat, effectively blocking entry from the riverine Char regions.
They allege that the move has severely disrupted their ability to attend classes and constitutes a violation of the Right to Education Act.
The protest culminated in front of the District Commissioner’s office, where students demanded the immediate reopening of the road.
The closure has affected several educational institutions, including Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Dhubri Girls Academy, Dhubri Municipal High School, Netai Dhubani College, Dhubri Girls College, and Vidyasagar College.
Students said the Kachari Ghat route is their primary and often only means of reaching their institutions.
They urged the administration to reconsider its decision, warning that continued restrictions would further hinder their access to education.
As of now, the district administration has not issued any official response regarding the protest or the reasons behind the road closure.
The student community remains firm in its demand for an immediate resolution.
