PASIGHAT, June 29: In a celebration of academic brilliance and sporting excellence, the Bogong Banggo Kebang (BBK), the apex traditional council of Bogong Banggo, on Sunday felicitated the top ten CBSE Class X and Class XII district toppers for the academic session 2024–25, along with national-level gold medalists in sports from East Siang district.
The felicitation ceremony, held at the IGJHSS Auditorium in Pasighat, was organised under the initiative of BBK President Basalung Jamoh and General Secretary Onong Perme, as stated in an official release.
The programme was graced by local MLA Tapi Darang as the Chief Guest, with East Siang Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani as the Guest of Honour.
Among the special guests were Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba, 5th IRBn Commandant Garima Singh, DDSE Odhuk Tabing, Principal of IGJHSS Oyar Tabing, CEO of Pasighat Smart City Dr Manjuli Komut, Registrar of Arunachal State University Narmi Darang, as well as senior citizens, teachers, parents, and students.
Members of the “Pre-Independence Business Families of Pasighat Market,” who played a pivotal role in the town’s economic development, were also present.
Congratulating the young achievers for bringing laurels to the district, MLA Tapi Darang expressed heartfelt appreciation for the philanthropic gesture of the Pasighat Market’s historic business community, whose forefathers were instrumental in shaping the commercial and socio-economic foundation of Pasighat and East Siang.
Their contribution towards sponsoring the awards and felicitation, the MLA said, would go a long way in inspiring other youth to pursue academic and sporting excellence.
Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani, addressing the gathering, encouraged the students to become role models for their peers.
She emphasised that true progress lies in empowering children and youth through holistic and quality education.
She called upon the community, educators, and parents to work collectively in shaping the future of the younger generation.
The Deputy Commissioner also announced that the district administration would soon introduce a “Deputy Commissioner for a Day” programme to promote academic excellence.
Under this initiative, meritorious students would be ceremonially given the opportunity to serve as the DC for a day.
Earlier in the programme, BBK President Basanglu Jamoh delivered an inspiring speech on the importance of education in shaping society.
He paid homage to the educators of the NEFA (North-East Frontier Agency) era for their pioneering efforts in spreading education in the region. He also reaffirmed BBK’s commitment to human resource development.
The welcome address was delivered by BBK General Secretary Onong Perme.
The felicitation event was organised with the generous sponsorship of the “Business Families of Pasighat Market” and coordinated by Bhimlal Srivastav and Santosh Singh.
The event not only recognised the hard work and accomplishments of students and athletes but also reflected the community’s enduring commitment to fostering talent and celebrating excellence across generations.
