KHERONI, July 1: Despite receiving official approval from the Union Ministry of Railways, the proposed stoppage of the 12423/12424 New Delhi–Dibrugarh Town Rajdhani Express (Daily) at Diphu Railway Station in Karbi Anglong remains unimplemented, drawing criticism from local residents and public representatives.
Amarsing Tisso, Member of Parliament from the Diphu Lok Sabha constituency, had formally requested the railway ministry to introduce a halt at Diphu, citing the town’s importance as a key administrative and commercial centre in the region.
The request was submitted through a letter dated July 20, 2024, addressed to Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology.
Responding favourably to the proposal, the Union Minister extended his support in a letter (No. 2025/CHG/13/NFR/07/Part-1) dated May 28, 2025, addressed to MP Tisso.
Subsequently, the Joint Director (Coaching) of the Railway Board, New Delhi, directed the General Manager of North Frontier Railway (NFR), Guwahati, and other relevant divisional authorities to make the necessary arrangements for the stoppage.
However, despite the official clearance and directive from the Railway Board, no tangible action has been taken by the NFR authorities.
There has been no communication or operational step from the concerned railway divisions to initiate the sanctioned halt, leading to rising public dissatisfaction.
The inaction has been widely criticised as an administrative lapse, with several local leaders and organisations questioning the accountability of railway officials in implementing policy decisions.
Many have expressed concern that high-level assurances are failing to translate into on-ground service delivery.
Residents of Diphu and adjoining areas continue to face inconvenience due to the absence of a Rajdhani halt, despite the ministerial approval.
Public representatives and citizens are now urging the Ministry of Railways to intervene urgently and ensure that the approved stoppage is implemented without further delay.
They have also called for accountability from officials responsible for the continued inaction.
