KHERONI, July 16: In a major boost to rail connectivity in Assam’s hill districts, the Dibrugarh Town–New Delhi Rajdhani Express (Train Nos. 12423/12424) will begin halting at Diphu Railway Station from July 17, 2025.
The new stoppage, approved by the competent railway authority, comes in response to a request made by Lok Sabha MP Amarsing Tisso and fulfils a longstanding public demand for improved railway access in the region.
The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Northeast Frontier Railway’s Lumding Division has invited MP Tisso to attend the official flagging-off ceremony at Diphu Railway Station on July 17 at 11:00 PM. The inaugural halt of the DOWN Rajdhani Express (12423) is scheduled for 11:21 PM the same night.
The UP Rajdhani Express (12424), departing from Dibrugarh Town, will reach Diphu at 2:24 AM on July 18. Both trains will stop at the station for two minutes.
The inclusion of Diphu as a stoppage point on the prestigious Rajdhani route is expected to significantly benefit residents of Diphu and adjoining areas by providing direct rail connectivity to the national capital on a premium express service.
Operating daily, the Rajdhani Express is known for its speed, onboard comfort, and extensive amenities, covering a distance of approximately 2,421 km between Dibrugarh Town and New Delhi in about 37 hours and 35 minutes.
The move is being seen as part of MP Tisso’s continued efforts to strengthen infrastructure and connectivity in Assam’s hill districts and to ensure better access to national transport networks.
