DIPHU, July 3: In a bid to boost the rural economy and encourage self-reliant livelihood practices, Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) Johny Timung of Lumbajong constituency on Thursday distributed fish seeds (fingerlings) to fish farmers of the area.
The initiative was made possible through funds personally arranged by the MAC.
The distribution event was held with the aim of supporting local farmers in enhancing fish production, which is considered a sustainable and profitable avenue in the region’s agrarian landscape.
Addressing the gathering, Timung expressed his gratitude and said he was “truly humbled” to be able to contribute to the livelihoods of the local farmers.
He underlined the significance of fish farming as a promising tool for rural upliftment.
“Fish farming holds great potential in boosting income and ensuring nutritional security in our rural belts. I am hopeful this contribution will help our farmers achieve a bountiful harvest in the coming seasons,” he stated.
Several fish farmers from across Lumbajong constituency were present to receive the fingerlings.
They expressed appreciation for the gesture and pledged to scale up aquaculture efforts in the region.
The initiative has been widely welcomed by the community as a timely step towards rural empowerment, sustainable farming, and economic resilience in Karbi Anglong.
