GUWAHATI, July 9: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stressed the need for students to stay updated with the latest technology and empower themselves so that they can contribute meaningfully to the nation.
He also underscored the role of educational institutions not just as academic centres, but also as a driving force for socio-economic empowerment of the local area, an official release said.
The chief minister said this while he was speaking at the closing ceremony of Goreswar College’s Golden Jubilee celebrations in Tamulpur on Tuesday, the official release said.

Lauding the contributions of all those associated with the college since its inception, Sarma said that Goreswar College has transformed itself into a front-running educational institution in the state.
Emphasising that educational institutions in an area are responsible not only for academic development but also socio-economic empowerment, he said Goreswar College has carried out this mandate over the years.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, Sarma said that in this ‘Amrit Yatra’, youth have to take a decisive role as ‘Amrit Santan’.
He maintained that the conventional mode of education has undergone a sea change and students need to empower themselves with the emerging subjects.
Subjects like AI, quantum Physics, machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), augmented reality and data analytics have expedited the pace of change and development, he said.
The chief minister said that in this competitive world, to derive the full value of the knowledge gained in educational institutions, one needs to be aware of market demands.
Sarma also stressed updating the curricula to keep up with emerging trends so that students could benefit. (PTI)
