ITANAGAR, July 22: The Ministry of Power, Government of India, has appointed Er Toko Onuj, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Hydro Power Development Corporation of Arunachal Pradesh Ltd. (HPDCAPL), as a Member of the Governing Council of the National Power Training Institute (NPTI) for a period of three years, with effect from July 1, 2025.
According to an official statement, Er Onuj has been inducted into the apex training body under the Ministry as a representative from the power sector of Northeast India.
His appointment is expected to provide the Governing Council with valuable regional insight and technical expertise from the region.
The Governing Council of NPTI is chaired by the Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, and comprises representatives from State Electricity Boards or Departments and other eminent individuals from fields such as technical education, power equipment manufacturing, renewable energy, energy conservation, and rural electrification.
Members are selected on a rotational basis to provide strategic guidance and policy inputs for the institute’s functioning.
NPTI, an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified autonomous organisation headquartered in Faridabad, Haryana, functions as the national apex body for human resource development in the power sector.
With over five decades of legacy, it has trained more than 4.7 lakh professionals and is recognised internationally for its integrated training approach across thermal, hydro, renewable energy, transmission, distribution, and regulatory domains.
The institute also offers an MBA in Power Management and operates 11 centres across India.
Its training programmes are bolstered by generation simulators to improve operational efficiency in power plants.
NPTI also conducts international training programmes under the ITEC initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs and has partnerships with over 160 countries.
The appointment of Er Toko Onuj is seen as a recognition of his leadership and contributions to the power sector in Arunachal Pradesh and the Northeast region.
The official statement added that his inclusion in the Governing Council is expected to strengthen the regional representation in national-level policy and training initiatives.
