YINGKIONG, July 26: The 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed with patriotic fervour across Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday, with programmes held in all 28 districts to honour the bravery and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces during the Kargil War of 1999.
Celebrations in the remote border district of Upper Siang saw the participation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Kaling Moyong, who felicitated several retired defence personnel and their family members in a tribute to their committed service to the nation.
According to an official statement, Moyong addressed the gathering in Yingkiong, stating that the entire BJP organisation, from booth-level workers to senior leaders, actively participated in commemorative events held across the state.
He added that the party’s decision to mark the occasion in Upper Siang was both symbolic and significant, given the district’s proximity to the Indo-China border.
Activities throughout the day included interactions with ex-servicemen, community engagements, and a Mashal rally in the evening to reaffirm solidarity with India’s armed forces and to pay tribute to the martyrs.
Moyong said that the sacrifices made during the Kargil War exemplify unparalleled courage, and that citizens must draw inspiration from these acts of valour to work towards peace, communal harmony, development, and national unity.
He called upon people to rededicate themselves to the cause of national service and to uphold the ideals for which the martyrs fought.
Chief Minister’s Advisor and Yingkiong-Tuting MLA Alo Libang, Dambuk MLA Puniyo Apum, APIDFC Chairman Nani Lajie, BJP State General Secretary Junti Singpho, State Kisan Morcha President Gumsen Lollen, and several other senior BJP leaders from both state and district units were also present during the celebration at the BJP’s Upper Siang district office.
The official statement further mentioned that the evening Mashal rally in Yingkiong town witnessed the participation of hundreds of BJP workers and local residents, who marched in honour of the martyrs and in solidarity with the armed forces guarding the international borders under challenging conditions.
