GUWAHATI, July 30: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday held a video conference with Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, Deputy Commissioners, Principals, and senior education department officials to review preparations for the rollout of Nijut Moina 2.0, scheduled for launch on August 6 across Assam.
According to an official statement, the scheme will be launched with the distribution of forms to eligible girl students from Higher Secondary, Undergraduate, Postgraduate, B.Ed, and Integrated Teacher Education Programme courses.
Sarma instructed district-level officials to ensure a smooth, transparent, and efficient implementation process, with a special focus on wide-scale outreach.
Nijut Moina, a flagship initiative of the Assam government, aims to empower girl students by providing financial support to reduce school dropout rates and promote higher education, particularly among underprivileged groups.
In its second phase, the scheme seeks to expand its coverage and improve the timely disbursement of benefits through better coordination among district authorities.
“Nijut Moina 2.0 is not just a welfare scheme, it is our pledge to support the dreams and education of every girl in Assam. By investing in girls’ education, we are investing in the future of the state,” Dr. Sarma said during the interaction.
He also directed officials to maintain an up-to-date beneficiary database, streamline identification procedures, and carry out awareness campaigns at the grassroots to ensure no eligible student is left out.
He added that resident girl students of Assam enrolled in Central Universities like Tezpur University and Assam University will also be covered under Nijut Moina 2.0.
The chief minister urged the Education Department to ensure that the scheme becomes a model for inclusive and transformative governance in the education sector.
Environment and Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Revenue Minister Keshab Mahanta, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Garlosa, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Krishnendu Paul, Chief Secretary Dr Ravi Kota, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr KK Dwivedi, and Secretary of Higher and School Education Narayan Konwar, along with other senior officials, were present during the virtual meeting.
