NAGAON, Aug 3: The newly built main gateway of Dhing College — one of the oldest educational institutions in Nagaon district established in 1965 and currently celebrating its Diamond Jubilee — was inaugurated on Saturday by Assam Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Keshab Mahanta.
The function was attended by Nagaon–Batadroba MLA Rupak Sarma, Deputy Commissioner Devashish Sarma, former minister Gautam Bora, Dhing College principal Dr Biman Hazarika, Gopinath Dev Goswami Commerce College principal Dr Mriganka Saikia and Dhing Circle Officer Sourav Das along with faculty members, students and other dignitaries.
As part of the celebration, the Deputy Commissioner also visited a painting and pearl exhibition organised on the campus by the Assam Pearl Development Cooperative Society Ltd.
During the programme, Minister Mahanta instructed officials of the Dhing Revenue Circle to initiate immediate procedures for converting over 75 bighas of college land to myadi (permanent settlement) status in the interest of the institution.
