NAMSAI, Aug 8: A joint surprise inspection was conducted today by Assistant Controller (in-charge of Inspector Legal Metrology) C S Singpho and Food Safety Officer A Taloh from the Department of Health, Namsai.
During the inspection, six trading units were booked under Section 24 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 for using unverified weighing scales, instruments, and weights.
Another trading unit was booked under Section 18(1) for stocking packaged commodities without mandatory declarations such as the manufacturer’s name and address, and the date of manufacturing or packing on the label.
Additionally, five businesses were found operating without valid food licences. They were served notices under Sections 31 and 63 of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006.
Officials instructed the trading units to ensure annual verification of weights and measures, renew food licences on time, and avoid stocking packaged commodities without the mandatory labelling that must be clearly legible to consumers before purchase.
