YINGKIONG, Sept 9: The District Level NCORD (Narcotic Coordination) meeting was held on Tuesday at the Conference Hall of the DC Office in Yingkiong to review ongoing efforts and strengthen coordinated action against drug abuse in Upper Siang district, an official statement said on Tuesday.
Organised by the District Police, the meeting brought together key officials, line departments, and community representatives to assess progress on drug prevention measures and identify future strategies.
The discussions centered on implementing and expanding efforts initiated as per the minutes of the last meeting, with a renewed focus on joint action, innovation, and community involvement.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Upper Siang, Token Saring, in his opening remarks, underscored the primary objectives of NCORD and called for enhanced cooperation among departments.
“We must rise above individual efforts and work collectively with innovative approaches to address drug-related issues in our district. A coordinated strategy and proactive participation from every stakeholder are vital if we are to ensure a drug-free Upper Siang,” he stated.
During the meeting, Dr Karo Teng, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Yingkiong, presented a detailed report on the department’s interventions.
He informed participants that integrated health camps had been conducted in 10 schools across the district as part of awareness and prevention efforts.
Additionally, progress was shared regarding the ongoing development of the De-addiction Centre at Yingkiong, aimed at providing treatment and counselling services for those affected by substance abuse.
Ine Pertin, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) and Deputy Director of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), highlighted the role of Anganwadi workers under the Nasha Mukti Abhiyan.
“Our frontline workers have been sensitized on their responsibilities, and action plans have been implemented at the grassroots level to educate families and communities about the dangers of drug abuse,” she said.
Further, the Deputy Director of School Education (DDSE) shared that Prahari Club Committees had been constituted in schools across the district to actively promote anti-drug campaigns.
These student-led committees are responsible for spreading awareness about the risks of substance abuse, supporting peer education initiatives, and fostering a healthy and drug-free learning environment.
The meeting also emphasized the need for sustained efforts and innovation in tackling the issue.
Officials called upon departments to explore new methods, collaborate across sectors, and encourage community participation in drug prevention programmes.
The gathering concluded with a collective resolve to intensify anti-drug campaigns and strengthen support mechanisms to safeguard the health and well-being of the youth in Upper Siang.
The official statement further noted that the District Level NCORD meeting reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to promoting a safe and healthy environment.
Participants unanimously agreed that persistent coordination, awareness drives, and timely interventions are critical to preventing drug abuse and protecting future generations from its harmful effects.
