PASIGHAT, Oct 14: Continuing its intensified crackdown on the drug menace under Operation Dawn 2.0, the East Siang Police on Monday apprehended two individuals, including a woman peddler, and seized suspected heroin along with cash believed to be the proceeds of sale.
Acting on a specific intelligence input, the Anti-Drugs Squad (ADS) of East Siang district, in coordination with the Anti-Drugs Warriors, Pasighat, carried out a meticulously planned operation at 4 Mile, Pasighat. The operation resulted in the arrest of Peeman Manham Taloh, identified as a lady peddler, and Tajen Perme, a habitual drug user.
According to police sources, an undercover buyer was deployed to approach the suspects. The team swooped in at the right moment, catching both accused red-handed while they were in possession of contraband substances.
The operation was led by DSP Ayup Boko, ADS In-charge, assisted by SI K Tangha, Ct. S. Perme, L/Ct. G Pangkak, L/Ct N. Pansa, Ct K Mili, Ct K. Talukm, Ct K. Riram, and Ct T. Padung, in close coordination with Gumin Mize and his Anti-Drugs Warriors team from Pasighat.
The search and seizure were carried out in the presence of Executive Magistrate Miss Mum Messar, adhering strictly to the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The operation led to the recovery of 9.28 grams (gross weight including tobacco containers) of suspected heroin, ₹89,000 in cash, believed to be drug sale proceeds, one keypad mobile phone
Police said that Peeman Manham Taloh was taken to the Women Police Station (WPS), while Tajen Perme and the seized materials were brought to Pasighat Police Station and handed over to the Officer-in-Charge for further legal action.
A case has been registered at Pasighat Police Station under PSGT/PS/C/No.93/2025, U/S 21(a) of the NDPS Act and Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigation into the case is underway.
Superintendent of Police, East Siang, Pankaj Lamba, IPS, lauded the efforts of the ADS team and reiterated the district police’s zero-tolerance stance towards drug trafficking and abuse.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and to promptly report any such illegal activities to the police, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to achieving a drug-free East Siang.
