Operation Dawn 2.0: Peddler arrested with contraband, sale proceeds in pasighat

PASIGHAT, Sept 13: Under the ongoing Operation Dawn 2.0, the East Siang Police apprehended a drug peddler and seized approximately 9.69 grams of suspected heroin, along with cash and other items, an official statement said.

Acting on credible intelligence, the Anti-Drugs Squad (ADS) of East Siang, in coordination with Anti-Drugs Warriors, Pasighat, arrested the accused, identified as Gonong Taloh, son of Ojing Taloh of Yagrung Village, Pasighat.

An undercover operation was carried out, and the peddler, who has been involved in the illicit sale of narcotics, was caught red-handed.

The operation was led by ADS In-charge, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ayup Boko, along with SI K Tangha, Constable K. Perme, and Constable K Ninu, in close coordination with Anti-Drugs Warriors, Pasighat.

The seizure was conducted under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, in the presence of Executive Magistrate Miss Oter Gao and independent witnesses.

During the search, the police recovered 9.67 grams of suspected heroin, cash amounting to ₹17,800, six tobacco containers, three transparent vials, 23 live cartridges of 12 gauge and 70 mm size, and one smartphone.

The accused, along with the seized items, was brought to Pasighat Police Station and handed over to the Officer-in-Charge.

A case has been registered under PSGT/PS/C/No.76/2025 U/S 21(b) of the NDPS Act read with Section 25(1-B)(a) of the Arms Act, and the investigation is currently underway.

Superintendent of Police, East Siang, Shri Pankaj Lamba, IPS, commended the team’s efforts and reaffirmed the district police’s commitment to a zero-tolerance approach towards drug-related crimes.

He also urged the public to report any suspicious activities, emphasising that community cooperation is essential to maintaining a drug-free East Siang, the statement added.
