PASIGHAT, July 4: In a continuing crackdown on narcotics under Operation Dawn 2.0, the East Siang Police on Friday apprehended a drug peddler in Pasighat and seized a quantity of suspected heroin along with cash and a mobile phone.
According to an official statement issued by the district police, the operation was launched based on credible intelligence inputs regarding the activities of a known drug peddler.
The accused, identified as Obang Modi, 60, son of Kyalop Modi and a resident of the GTC area in Pasighat, was caught red-handed by the Anti-Drugs Squad (ADS) of East Siang Police.
The operation was led by DSP Ayup Boko, in charge of the ADS, and included SI K Tangha, ASI R Lowang, Constables R Rukbo, B Tamut, and R Lego.
The team apprehended Modi and recovered approximately 2.46 grams of suspected heroin during a body search.
The search was conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and in the presence of an Executive Magistrate.
In addition to the suspected narcotics, the police seized Rs 3,000 in cash and a smartphone from the accused.
The entire procedure, including the search and seizure, was documented through videography and photography using the e-Sakshya application to ensure transparency and legal compliance.
The arrested individual was taken to the Pasighat Police Station along with the seized items.
A case has been registered under Section 21(a) of the NDPS Act, 1985, vide PSGT/PS/C/No. 51/2025, and further investigation is currently underway.
Superintendent of Police, East Siang, Pankaj Lamba, IPS, lauded the swift and professional conduct of the ADS team.
He reaffirmed the East Siang Police’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on drug-related offences and urged citizens to come forward with information about such illegal activities.
“Community cooperation is critical to our mission of ensuring a drug-free East Siang. We appeal to the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities,” SP Lamba said in the statement.
Operation Dawn 2.0 is part of a sustained state-wide initiative to combat the drug menace through intelligence-based operations, community engagement, and strict enforcement of narcotics laws.
