IED blast on the railway track in Kokrajhar

Investigation on into the incident, says police

KOKRAJHAR,OCT 23: Sensation prevailed in Kokrajhar-the city of peace following an IED blast in the wee hour on the railway track between Kokrajhar and Salakati railway station in Kokrajhar district.

Remarkably,the blast has been reported as first kind of blast in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) since post singing of BTR Peace Accord 2020(27th January).

According to source, the incident took place at around 12.10 am which has been planted at the middle portion of railway track near Singimari railway gate between Kokrajhar and Salakati railway station by unknown miscreants. The blast damaged the railway track in two parts which sounded strong during the blast. However, no casualty was reported from the incident. A goods train was travelled through the track few 10 minutes ago when the incident took place.

Senior police official and railway officials were rushed the spot immediately after the incident. The railway official and staffs are engaged to repair the damage track since post incident and repaired the railway track till the morning. Normal services of the railway were resumed through the railway since morning.”

A thorough investigation into the incident started and hopeful that involved persons behind the incident would be identified after detail investigation”, a senior police official said.

Local people in the area have expressed their suspect that unidentified miscreants have planted the bomb on the track.

In the recent concluded BTC elections, the BPF won the BTC elections with majority seats and formed the BTC Govt on 5th October 2025. The blast marked the incident in Kokrajhar within the few days of the BPF rule in BTC.

Local MLA of Kokrajhar East LAC, Lawrence Islary, UPPL general secretary, Raju Kumar Narzary have visited the spot this morning and took stock about the incident.

The incident brought the condemnation from different quarters of the spheres.

UPPL strongly condemned the incident and urged the concern authorities to conduct a strict investigation into the incident.

” We condemn the IED Blasts on the railway track between Kokrajhar and Salakati Railway Station. This kind of incidents stopped long ago, and reoccurrence is really frightening.”, UPPL general secretary Narzary said.

“People at helms of affairs must take sustenance of peace seriously. Peace is not only slogan, it is a solemn collective vision that all stakeholders-Govt, CSOs, Law Enforcing Agencies, Individuals, Youth Groups, Women Forums, Student Unions etc have to work together. We hope that it is not beginning of dark days in Assam but one odd incident in isolation. Appealing the Govt of the day to deploy all the resources under its command-police, intelligence etc to nab the culprits and put end to this chaos. UPPL shall cooperate in every positive step of the govt as it has believed and established peace in the region”, he added.
