GUWAHATI, Nov 24: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday distributed cheques of ₹10,000 each to 32,787 beneficiaries of the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) in Rangia Legislative Assembly Constituency as part of the government’s continued push towards women-led entrepreneurship.
Of the total beneficiaries, 30,665 are from rural areas and 2,122 from urban areas of Rangia LAC.

At the event, the chief minister paid tributes to Bir Lachit Borphukan on his birth anniversary and urged the younger generation to draw inspiration from his courage and dedication to Assam.
Speaking on the scheme, Sarma said MMUA was conceptualised in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of enabling three crore women across India to become ‘lakhpati didis’.
He said the State aims to provide seed capital to 32 lakh women by January next year.
Under the three-stage financial assistance structure, beneficiaries who productively use the first instalment of ₹10,000 will qualify for ₹25,000 as the second instalment and ₹50,000 as the third.
The chief minister highlighted success stories from Rangia, including Namita Kalita of Manikanchan SHG, who sustains her livelihood through a food business earning about ₹12,000 monthly, and Babita Choudhury of Sowarshiri SHG, who earns ₹15,000 per month.
He said three thousand more women in Rangia LAC will be included under Orunodoi soon.
Currently, 33,784 families in the constituency benefit from the scheme, while 40,178 families have received free LPG connections and 4,376 girl students are covered under the Nijut Moina scheme.
Several dignitaries, including Environment and Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, MPs Bhubaneswar Kalita and Dilip Saikia, and MLAs Bhabesh Kalita and Suman Haripriya, were present at the programme.
