15th NCORD meeting in East Siang reviews gains in district’s anti-drug campaign

PASIGHAT, Nov 28: The 15th monthly NCORD meeting chaired by East Siang Police at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall today reviewed the district’s ongoing anti-drug initiatives and highlighted key milestones achieved through coordinated efforts of government departments, community-based organisations, NGOs and civil society.

Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani, while reviewing the Action Taken Reports submitted by various departments, commended the proactive steps taken to strengthen the district’s anti-drug campaign.

She said the progress made so far reflects encouraging momentum in East Siang’s fight against substance abuse. Jiwani stressed the need to empower recovering youths by linking them with self-employment opportunities and directed departments to intensify outreach in Sudharghars (rehabilitation centres).

She advised officials to conduct regular awareness sessions on vocational and skill development courses offered by institutions such as RSETI Pasighat and the Department of Skill Development and Industries.

Earlier, SP East Siang Pankaj Lamba briefed the meeting on the police department’s recent initiatives, including anti-drug awareness drives, strict enforcement of the NDPS Act, and joint operations conducted with other departments.

He informed that the Voice Against Drug Abuse (VADA) clubs, in collaboration with WASE and recovered warriors, reached 1,300 individuals this month across five villages under Mebo Sub-division.

He also reported the organisation of the “Drug-Free East Siang Police Fest” as part of community outreach efforts.

The meeting was attended by SDPO Dr Akansha Milind Tamgadge, Dy SP Ayup Boko, senior police officials, Jt DHS BPGH Dr T. Tali, DMO Dr Yagling Perme, ADI Anima Gammeng, Superintendent T&E Kangong Dai, District Resource Person (Education) Eli Majumdar, ABAK district president Miti Megu Perme, WASE president Yamik Dulom Darang, and in-charges of drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres, among others.

Officials said the NCORD review aims to ensure seamless coordination among enforcement agencies and welfare departments as East Siang continues its efforts to reduce drug dependence and strengthen long-term rehabilitation mechanisms.
