LEDO, Dec 12: In a major development for residents of remote villages in the Ledo region, 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency MLA Bhaskar Sharma on Friday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a permanent bridge over the Tirap River at Ledo Baruahghat. The project promises to end decades of uncertainty and hardship for villagers in Ledo Kuhiar Bari, Bisa Gaon, Toklong and Tinihuti in Tinsukia district.

For years, the absence of a proper bridge forced villagers to undertake perilous crossings, particularly during monsoon seasons, disrupting daily life and access to essential services. Local residents expressed relief, noting that despite 78 years of India’s independence, previous governments had not taken steps to construct a safe bridge over the river.

The foundation-laying ceremony drew a large gathering of villagers and local leaders. Attendees included presidents of the three Margherita BJP mandals, senior BJP leader Bhim Karmakar, Ledo Bisa Gaon Chief Mung Dung Gam Singpho, journalist and social worker Jagat Changmai and members of the BJP Mahila Morcha and Yuva Morcha.

MLA Bhaskar Sharma told media that the bridge will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 8 crore and is expected to significantly improve connectivity, easing transportation challenges for thousands of residents in the constituency. Residents expressed optimism that the long-standing hardship caused by the lack of a bridge will soon be resolved, marking a transformative milestone for the 83rd Margherita LAC in Tinsukia district.
