DIBRUGARH, Dec 22: With just three days to go for Christmas, a palpable festive fervour has enveloped Dibrugarh, as churches and neighbourhoods across the town resonate with joyful preparations.

Churches are being meticulously decorated in the traditional colours of red, white and green, illuminated with sparkling lights, stars and ornate Christmas trees, while final touches are being given to Nativity scenes.

From the Catholic Church at Khalihamari and the Baptist Church on Jail Road to the Church of Jesus Christ at Kadamoni and the Dibrugarh Mizo Church at Paltan Bazar, each place of worship is being transformed into a vibrant centre of celebration.

Colourful lights, ribbons and balloons further enhance the festive atmosphere.

The historic Catholic Church at Khalihamari, built in 1931, remains a major focal point of celebrations.

Its altar now features a beautifully arranged tableau of Jesus, surrounded by decorated cribs, while parishioners were seen adorning the statue of the Virgin Mary in the church compound with candles and ribbons.

“We are expecting a congregation of over 5,000 people for the midnight mass on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day, more than 10,000 people from across faiths visit the church every year,” said a church volunteer.

The festive spirit has also spread beyond church premises, with Christian neighbourhoods glowing with decorated porches and living rooms featuring Christmas trees adorned with bells and satin ribbons.

Restaurants, malls and shops across the town have joined in the celebrations, competing with eye-catching displays of stars, lights and Santa figurines, adding to the season’s cheer.
