SIVASAGAR, Dec 22: The killing of a Hindu youth, Dipu Chandra Das, in Bangladesh has drawn condemnation in Sivasagar, with several organisations expressing concern over the incident and its wider implications.
Members of the Ujoni Asom Muslim Kalyani Parishad (UAMKP), led by president M I Bora, held a protest in the district on Monday to denounce the killing.
During the protest, participants expressed strong opposition to the incident and criticised the interim administration in Bangladesh led by Mohammad Yunus, alleging failure to protect minorities.
The incident was also condemned by the Sivasagar district committee of the All Assam United Brahmin Council, the Sivasagar Press Club and the Sivasagar Municipality Taxpayers’ Association.
Representatives of these bodies described the killing as brutal and urged the Government of India to take appropriate diplomatic and other measures to address concerns over the safety of minorities in Bangladesh.
Leaders of the organisations said such incidents have caused anxiety among people in the region and called for steps to ensure peace, communal harmony and protection of vulnerable communities.
