BOKAJAN, Jan 9: The Assam Tea Tribe Students Association (ATTSA) staged a protest on Friday at Hollokhuwa village under the 24 Deopani MAC Constituency, expressing deep frustration over the non-implementation of the “Jagannath Singh Sukanbaidya Skill Development Scheme,” a flagship project aimed at empowering the tea tribe community.
ATTSA members raised slogans and highlighted that the scheme was intended to provide vocational training in weaving, hospitality, entrepreneurship and other skills to enhance employability and self-reliance among Adivasi/Tea Tribe youth.
The association pointed out that while the government announced the construction of 500 “Jagannath Community Halls cum Skill Centres” with a budget of Rs 750 crore, no visible progress has been made in the Hollokhuwa area. Protesters specifically criticised local leadership, including Deputy Speaker Dr Numal Momin, for failing to deliver the promised facilities in the Bokajan Legislative Assembly segment.
“We are deeply disappointed. If this scheme were implemented, many of our youth would have found a path toward a better future. The government must be held accountable for these empty promises,” said Probin Tanti, Executive Member, CC, ATTSA.
The association warned of further democratic protests if the government continues to neglect the educational and professional development of the tea tribe community.
