Dillai Police seize 320 kg Burmese betel nut in high-speed chase

BOKAJAN, Jan 22: In a successful anti-smuggling operation, Dillai Police intercepted a Maruti Alto near Dillai Ahithi carrying 9 bags of illegal Burmese betel nut (supari), weighing approximately 320 kg, valued at around Rs 3 lakh.

The vehicle, traveling from Khatkhati via the Langvoku route, tried to evade a routine checkpoint by taking a jungle path. Police gave chase and cornered the car, seizing the contraband. Two individuals, Raju Hussain (Nagaon) and Nazir Hussain (Doboka), were taken into custody. The operation was led by Dillai Police OC Jitumoni Saikia and a case has been registered for further investigation into the smuggling network.
