Khatkhati Police seize opium, arrest 2 in Punjab smuggling case

KHATKHATI, Jan 23: In a successful operation against narcotics, the Khatkhati Police seized a significant quantity of illegal opium and poppy straw during a routine check on Friday. Two individuals from Punjab were apprehended in connection with the smuggling attempt.

The seizure took place near the State Bank of India (SBI) branch under the jurisdiction of Khatkhati Police Station. Acting on routine surveillance, a police team intercepted a truck (registration number PB 65 AN-1277) traveling from Dimapur toward Bokajan.

Upon searching the vehicle’s cabin, officers recovered 2.26 kg of opium and 178 grams of poppy straw.

In this connection, the police have detained two individuals identified as Gurpreet Singh (55), son of Nirmal Singh, resident of Badali, Kharar, Mohali, Punjab and Kulvinder Singh (35), son of the late Harbans Singh, resident of Jandiala, Jalandhar, Punjab.

The operation was led by Khatkhati Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Surya Kumar Bora, alongside Sub-Inspectors Debasish Bora, Gobin Kakoti, and other personnel.

The contraband was officially seized in the presence of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Bokajan, Rustam Raj Brahma and independent witnesses. Authorities have confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover further links in the smuggling network.
