KOKRAJHAR, Jan 31: The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) concluded its 4th triennial conference on Saturday after a two-day event at Durga Mandir Field Complex, Mushalpur, Baksa district. The conference featured a multicultural rally with cultural troupes representing various communities, along with party workers and supporters and was attended by over 5,000 delegates from across the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and beyond.
Several resolutions were adopted, including a six-month extension of the existing Central Committee tenure with minor reshuffles. A new Youth Cell was formed with Rakesh Brahma as president, Phukan Lahary as general secretary (Administration) and Riman Soren as general secretary (Organisation). Leadership changes were also made in the Women Cell, with Pratibha Brahma re-elected as president, Mursida Begum as general secretary (A) and Marina Lahary Patel as general secretary (O).
Delegates raised concerns over the ongoing Special Revision of Electoral Rolls in Assam, opposing harassment, malpractices and false complaints against genuine voters. They resolved to mobilise UPPL workers to safeguard voters’ rights and appealed to the Election Commission of India for a free and fair process, noting that the NRC is already updated.
The conference also expressed concern over recent Karigaon violence, rising ethnic and communal tensions in BTR, increasing incidents of rape and illegal gambling and deteriorating law-and-order. The house appreciated Pramod Boro’s leadership in maintaining peace and stability during UPPL’s 2020–2025 government tenure and extended thanks to the Governments of India and Assam.
Regarding the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, the conference resolved to contest all possible seats and formed an Empowered Committee to oversee alliance-related decisions, comprising UG Brahma, Rwngwra Narzary, Khampa Borgoyari, Joyanta Basumatary, Wilson Hasda and Katiram Boro.
UPPL chief and former CEM of BTR, Pramod Boro, expressed confidence in contesting the elections, emphasising the party’s commitment to the welfare and development of the people and hope for widespread public support.
