The escapees have been identified as Nabin Buragohain, Amlanjyoti Chetia, Sasadhar Deori and Huntu Sonowal.

Following the breakout in the Chapakhowa area, Sadiya police launched a massive manhunt to apprehend the prisoners. District authorities have cordoned off multiple exit points in Tinsukia to prevent the men from leaving the district or crossing state borders.

An internal inquiry is expected to determine if negligence by the jail staff contributed to the escape.

The incident has raised serious concerns over security lapses at the fortified facility.
