GUWAHATI, Feb 24: Mayor Mrigen Sarania laid the foundation stone for a yoga hall at the Yoga Tirtha Project in Maligaon on Tuesday.
The project is being implemented under the development scheme of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation. The Yoga Tirtha Project is managed by the Bharatiya Yoga Sanskriti and Yoga Chikitsa Kendra, which has received recognition from the University of Health Sciences, Assam Government. The yoga hall to be constructed at a cost of Rs 10 lakh is expected to strengthen the project’s initiatives.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Sarania highlighted the importance of yoga in promoting physical and mental well-being and lauded the efforts of the Kendra in providing yoga education and training to youth across the state.
The Kendra offers diploma and degree courses in yoga, including postgraduate programs and has trained over 5,000 youth to date. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma has sanctioned Rs 10 lakh for the project and the Kendra expressed gratitude for his support.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by yoga experts, instructors and enthusiasts, including prominent yoga personality Anath Bandhu Ghosh.
