DIPHU, Feb 24: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ceremonially launched the distribution of Entrepreneurship Seed Capital to 45,286 women beneficiaries under the Chief Minister’s Women Entrepreneurship Mission at public meetings held in Bokajan and Mariani Legislative Assembly Constituencies.
Out of the total beneficiaries, 16,395 women from Bokajan and 28,891 women from Mariani received ₹10,000 each as the first installment of seed capital.
With this phase, a total of 28,90,131 women across 116 Assembly constituencies in the state have been covered under the scheme.
Addressing the gatherings, the chief minister said the ₹10,000 assistance marks the beginning of a larger financial support structure.
In subsequent phases, beneficiaries will receive additional assistance of ₹25,000 and ₹50,000, subject to proper utilisation of the initial funds.
He reiterated that the mission aims to promote self-reliance and economic empowerment among women.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, Sarma said the government is working towards transforming women into “Lakhpati Baideu,” referring to women earning at least ₹1 lakh annually.
He stated that nearly 40 lakh women in Assam are currently associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and about 8 lakh women have already attained the Lakhpati Baideu status.
Highlighting the government’s broader development initiatives over the past five years, the chief minister said 1.60 lakh youths have been provided government jobs, 40 lakh women are benefiting under the Orunodoi scheme, 32 lakh women under the entrepreneurship mission, and 4 lakh girl children under various financial assistance schemes.
During the Mariani programme, the chief minister also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple development projects, including new police station buildings, stadiums, bridges, road projects and other infrastructure works worth several crores of rupees.
He further announced upcoming initiatives, including a major dairy processing project in the region.
The meetings were attended by Members of Parliament, MLAs, officials of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, senior government officers and other dignitaries.
