LAHORIJAN, June 16: Karbi Anglong Police on Monday recovered the body of an unidentified youth from near railway tracks in Lahorijan.
According to reports, the body was found at around 11.30 am, about 200 metres from the Lahorijan railway bridge under the jurisdiction of Khatkhati Police Station in Bokajan subdivision.
On receiving information, a team from Khatkhati Police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and launched a preliminary investigation. The deceased is believed to be around 26 years old.
Police suspect that the youth may have died due to a drug overdose. The suspicion arose after heroin and drug paraphernalia, including used syringes and containers commonly used for storing chewing tobacco, were recovered from the vicinity of the body.
The body was examined in the presence of the Executive Magistrate of Bokajan before being sent to Diphu Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
As the identity of the deceased remains unknown, the body has been kept in the hospital morgue for the mandatory 72-hour period to facilitate identification.
Police have appealed to the public to contact Khatkhati Police Station if they have any information that could help identify the deceased.
