SIVASAGAR, Sept 23: Academy award winner, writer, translator Diganta Biswa Sarma received Dr. Moidul Islam Bora Literary Award on Thursday from Arunudoi Sahitya Sabha and Moidul Islam Bora Smriti Rakhya Samity in a well-attended function held in Sivasagar Girls’ College auditorium.
The award was handed over to the renowned speaker-orator by Kamakhya Prasad Tassa, MP (Rajya Sabha), and Prema Gogoi, president, Moidul Islam Bora Smriti Rakhya Samity in presence of minister of Revenue and Disaster Management Jogen Mohan, Sivasagar deputy commissioner Aditya Viram Yadav, principal of the college Dr. Rita Borkotoky, principal of SPP College Namti Dr. Dhrubajyoti Nath, former principal of Sibsagar College Dr. Prakash Kotoky; Jayanta Maut, DIPRO, Sivasagar; Prani Sarma, professor, Sivasagar Girls’ College, and Dr. Sabyasachi Mahanta, principal, Gargaon College.
Receiving the award, Sarma said that Dr. Moidul Islam Bora was a patriot to the core of his heart who could perceive the secret mission of Jinnah’s Pakistan Plan and was determined to oppose it tooth and nail. It was perhaps his resolute stand for Gandhi’s undivided India that he had to sacrifice his life at hands of communal conspirators from the Muslim League in Lucknow. He was devoted to his mission to uplift the Assamese language and was the youngest president of Asom Sahitya Sabha.

Sarma added that Dr. Moidul Islam Bora translated the famous Percy treatise ‘Baharistan-i-ghaibi’ to English which chronicled the Mughal subjugation of Bihar, Bengal, Assam, and Koch Bihar.
Tassa in his speech said that it is not the infrastructure but the academic achievements that are the most important thing in the modern world. He added that the nation wants a whole generation of devoted workers who can work dedicatedly for the country’s overall development.
Jogen Mohan said that Dr. Moidul Islam Bora translated many books from English to Assamese for the benefit of the Assamese students and there is still enough scope for research about Dr. Moidul Islam Bora for the new generation of Assamese youths.
