Manipur police arrests two carjackers; recovers van

IMPHAL, Jan 30 (NNN): Police have arrested two members of an alleged gang of carjackers including the mastermind and recovered a stolen van in Manipur, police said on Sunday.

A team of Manipur police personnel attached with Imphal West district police first arrested the mastermind of the alleged gang identified as Md Abdul Wahid (27) of Lilong from his house on Saturday, around 12.30 pm, the police said.

Another member of the alleged gang identified as Md Abdul Hakim of Lilong was arrested in the follow up action to the disclosure made by the alleged mastermind on the same day, around 7.30 pm, the police further said.

The police arrested the alleged mastermind during a raid on his house based on specific information.

During preliminary verification, the police revealed that he used to buy vehicles lifted by members of the alleged gang and sold the stolen vehicles to other persons.

He disclosed that he bought the vehicles lifted by Md Imtiyaz of Lilong, Md Mosil of Lilong H and Md Saroj of Lilong.

He further sold the vehicles to another person identified as Seikholen of Chandel district.

He further disclosed that he possessed a stolen Maruti EECO van which was handed over to him by one Md Abdul Hakim of Lilong.

In the follow- up action, the police arrested Md Abdul Hakim from his house, the police added.

The arrested alleged carjackers along with the recovered vehicle were handed over to Lilong police station of Thoubal district for taking further necessary action, the police further added.
